Primary Responsibilities: The successful candidate provides direct physical care to selected patients under supervision of a nurse. Assists and feeds patient requiring help and provides extra nourishment between meals and fresh water as necessary. Assists with lifting, positioning, moving and ambulating patients. Takes and records vital signs and maintains fluid balance charts. Transports patients by wheelchair, stretcher or bed and escorts ambulatory patients around the facility as necessary. Will respond to patient calls, determining and meeting patient’s needs and/or reporting patients’ concerns and requests to the nurse. Assists with patient baths and meeting personal hygiene needs to increase comfort and well-being of the patient. Communicates information and basic instructions to patients, families, and visitors.
Principal Accountabilities
A. Provides direct physical care to selected patients under the supervision of a nurse.
B. Assists with feeding patients who require help and provides additional nourishment and fresh water as needed.
C. Assists with lifting, positioning, moving, and ambulating patients.
D. Takes and records vital signs and maintains fluid balance charts.
E. Transports patients by wheelchair, stretcher, or bed, and escorts ambulatory patients within the facility as required.
F. Responds to patient calls, assesses needs, and either meets those needs or reports concerns to the nurse.
G. Assists patients with bathing and personal hygiene to enhance comfort and well-being.
H. Communicates basic information and instructions to patients, families, and visitors.
I. Participates in daily patient report exchanges and nursing care conferences.
J. Monitors and ensures the safety of patients, visitors, and staff.
K. Participates in occupational and educational activities as required.
L. Assists patients with activities of daily living.
M. Maintains a clean, neat, and organized patient and service area.
N. Prepares units for patient admissions and discharges.
O. Cleans and maintains equipment as directed.
P. Maintains positive interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors, and staff.
Q. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned (e.g., sitter duties).
